I have always marveled at art that truly captures light and form. For someone to create the illusion of reality on a two-dimensional surface seems like a magical power. However, art that focuses on realism is more than recreating what is seen, but also what is felt. There’s more to a sunset than can be captured with a photograph, but what is it and how do you describe it? This is the question that drives me to paint. The on-going fight to describe the indescribable.
I am a self taught artist, learning primarily on Youtube. I started practicing art more seriously in my early 30s. I am an example that anyone can learn to draw and paint. I truly believe that art is a skill that is found with practice. With enough practice, I hope to be able to paint realism with the effortless style of John Singer Sargeant, the creativity of James Gurney, and to capture light like Vermeer and Caravaggio.
I am currently focusing on oil paint as my primary medium, but I believe an artist should be versed in as many mediums as possible as they all have something to offer. My primary subject is light and how it interacts with the surfaces that it touches. I am located in Colorado Springs, Colorado and hope to begin branching out into the wonderful art world that Colorado has to offer.
